Internationally-renowned intellectual property and technology litigator, Glenn M. Cunningham has been appointed as the new Chair of elite global legal practice, Interlaw. A partner in the Hartford, Connecticut office of the US firm, Shipman & Goodwin LLP. Glenn has been an active Director on the Interlaw board since 2015, most recently serving as the Vice Chair.

He takes up the mantle from Michael Siebold, who has served two three-year terms as Chair and overseen a remarkable period of growth and advancement for the elite network. During this period, Interlaw has defined a clear vision for its evolution as a global legal practice, investing heavily in its digital infrastructure to facilitate seamless cross-border working and close collaboration between its strategic partners.

In addition to Glenn’s appointment, Interlaw has also announced several other changes to its board, as existing members stand down after finishing their terms. John O’Sullivan, managing partner at AMOSS Solicitors in Dublin, Neftali Garro, founding member of Central American firm BLP, and Kevin Degkai Zhu managing director of Zhonglun W&D, Beijing will all join the Interlaw board from October 2018.

Michael Siebold said: “It has been a privilege to lead this collective of dynamic, smart and enthusiastic independent law firm lawyers who all share a common vision – to deliver the very best legal advice and service to clients wherever they need it in the world. Today’s client demands – and deserves – the combination of supreme technical expertise and deep local insight. I believe that it is only possible to achieve this through the collaboration and continued investment of elite organizations like Interlaw and, as an active member firm, we look forward to supporting Glenn and the new board members in achieving their aims. I would also like to take the opportunity to thank Shuichi Namba, who has done an excellent job in supporting the ambitions of Interlaw across the Asia Pacific region.”

As Vice Chair, Glenn and Michael have worked closely together to crystallise Interlaw's strategic plan - Interlaw 2.0 - to ensure it grows in line with the type of legal partner today’s multinational client is seeking to instruct.

Glenn Cunningham said: “Under Michael’s leadership, Interlaw has taken great strides in understanding and responding to the needs of global clients. Thanks to his strategic focus,  our organization is flourishing and I look forward to working with our new board members John, Neftali and Kevin and existing board directors, to drive forward our plans to become the global legal practice of choice for clients around the world.”

Glenn’s appointment follows a period of significant growth for Interlaw, with 11 independent law firms making it through the organization’s rigorous due diligence process in the last fiscal year, as it continues to successfully attract the most reputable independent law firms to serve clients across its global operations.

As well as continuing to expand its presence in the world’s largest legal markets – the US and Europe – Interlaw has also added firms from strategically important emerging markets, notably Latin America and Africa.
