Elite global legal network Interlaw has continued its international expansion, welcoming leading Hungarian law firm Lakatos, Köves és Társai (LKT) to its worldwide operations, providing clients with access to one of the largest independent firms in Hungary.

LKT, which specialises in Banking & Finance, Real Estate, Corporate M&A and Competition, is a nine-partner firm with a total of 45 lawyers based at its office in Budapest. High profile cases the firm has recently advised on include a EUR12 billion cross border deal, and providing Hungarian law advice for the IPO of Europe’s largest haulage and logistics company.

Michael Siebold, chair of Interlaw, said: “LKT has an impressive reputation in Budapest, and is a leading firm in the Hungarian legal sector. Its experience working on high profile and high worth cross border instructions will perfectly complement and add to the existing expertise within the Interlaw network.

“LKT joining Interlaw is a further example of our commitment to delivering high quality legal advice across multiple jurisdictions, coupled with deep local understanding – something we know clients are increasingly demanding.”

Founding partners Peter Lakatos, Peter Köves and Richard Lock have been working together since 1992. From 1993 until 2009 the firm was a part of Clifford Chance, and since 2009 the firm has been independent. The firm has multiple rankings in Chambers, Legal 500 and IFLR and is widely recognised as one of the leading firms in Hungary.

Richard Lock, Partner at LKT said: “We have built our reputation in Hungary over years of excellent work, and we wanted to further extend our footprint to international companies looking to invest in Hungary. We are experienced in providing expert advice on the nuances of Hungarian law for clients entering our market, and being part of Interlaw gives us the opportunity to work with more likeminded firms across the globe.”
