Interlaw’s Dutch partner firm, AKD, has advised BACU – a leading industrial bakery company – on its acquisition of the bakery business of major Dutch retailer, HEMA, in a deal worth between €50-100 million.

HEMA Bakkerijen has supplied pastries and other bakery products to HEMA for over 20 years. The deal will see BACU take on HEMA’s current portfolio of bakeries and all 250 of its staff. It will continue to supply bread and pastries to HEMA as well as its other customers, which includes JUMBO, the Netherland’s second largest supermarket chain.

The AKD team provided BACU, which is based in Uden, on the tax-related issues of the transaction. Its team was led by tax partner Eric Vermeulen, who was supported by partners Milja Bormann-Bakker and Ludo Luijks, tax advisors Joost van Benthum and Maarten Munsterman, and junior tax advisors Maud Plattel and Benyamin Karimi.
