Interlaw’s Spanish Firm Appoints Five New Counsel

Gómez-Acebo & Pombo (GA_P), Interlaw’s firm in Spain, has promoted five of its lawyers to counsel, reflecting the firm’s commitment to developing internal talent.

Mercedes Corbal, Bárbara Sainz de Vicuña, Rocío Arias, José Francisco Canalejas and Álvaro Sainz take up their new roles in the industrial and intellectual property, tax and finance teams respectively.   

Bárbara Sainz de Vicuña and Mercedes Corbal, both joined Gómez-Acebo & Pombo in 2007. Bárbara specializes in digital law and new technologies, e-commerce, data protection, audiovisual law and consumer law. She also has extensive experience in the retail sector.   Mercedes specializes in industrial property, unfair competition and advertising litigation before commercial and European Union courts. In addition, as an Industrial Property Agent, she is responsible for proceedings before the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office and the European Union Intellectual Property Office.   

José Francisco Canalejas holds a PhD in Law from the University of Castilla la Mancha. He joined the firm in 2009 and focusses on the derivatives market, financial regulation, capital markets and corporate and real estate financing.   

Álvaro Sainz, who joined the firm in 2010, studied an LL.M. at New York University and is qualified to practice in Spain and New York. His experience is in restructurings, direct financing, cross border financings and debt analysis and distressed debt acquisitions/disposals.   

Rocío Arias, a lawyer and economist, joined the firm in 2014 and specializes in tax litigation, and advises on tax proceedings both in the administrative phase and in the judicial phase. She also provides advice on direct taxation matters for national and international groups.
