Interlaw Welcomes Merger of Australian Partner Firm
Interlaw welcomes the planned merger of its founding Australian partner firm, Hunt and Hunt NSW with leading Sydney commercial firm Hicksons. This significant development marks a new phase of growth for both firms as well as the growth of the elite network in strategically important regions across the world.
The combined offering of the two firms will span practice areas including corporate and commercial, dispute resolution, insurance, real estate, construction and planning, workplace and employment law, technology, health, regulatory, marine, inquiries and family law. Clients can expect a broader range of services to meet their needs in a rapidly changing environment.
Interlaw Global Chair Michael Pattinson said: “We are extremely delighted to welcome Hicksons’ nearly 300 staff to the Interlaw network, enabling us to offer our clients even more comprehensive legal services in the important Australian market. Interlaw looks forward to working with our new colleagues to fully integrate them within the network.”
The merger between Hunt & Hunt NSW and Hicksons will be effective from July 1, 2025, and combines Hunt & Hunt’s New South Wales operations with Hicksons. The total number of partners in the new entity will be 40 with over 300 staff. Hunt & Hunt’s other locations in Darwin, Melbourne, and Perth are not part of the merger. All Hunt & Hunt locations are Interlaw’s strategic partners in Australia.
Managing partner Hasti Kalarostaghi said, “The combined law firm will be able to leverage Interlaw’s unmatched expertise of international lawyers, offering clients an enhanced and broader range of legal services. We also look forward to contributing to the network’s delivery of professional development opportunities and training, including in generative AI, international secondment programs, and leadership training.”
