Trowers & Hamlins, Interlaw’s partner firm in England and Wales, has announced the arrival of its first cohort of solicitor apprentices. The initiative forms part of Trowers & Hamlins’ wider strategy to nurture talent and create more inclusive pathways into law, supporting individuals who may not follow the traditional university-to-training-contract route.

The Solicitor Apprenticeship program offers an alternative route to qualification, allowing individuals to combine paid, hands-on work experience with structured academic study. Over six years, apprentices gain exposure to a range of practice areas while working toward their solicitor qualification, providing a more flexible and financially accessible pathway to a legal career. By reducing barriers to entry, these programs help underserved communities and those who may be unable to afford full-time study access opportunities in the legal services industry.

Emily Green, Senior Early Talent Advisor, who pitched the idea alongside John Worrall, Head of Learning & Development, and was closely involved in shaping the program, commented, “We are thrilled to welcome our first Solicitor Apprentices to Trowers. These talented individuals bring fresh perspectives, energy, and determination, and we are proud to support them in developing their careers. The apprenticeship route reflects our belief that there should be more than one pathway to a successful career in law, and that by opening doors we can build a more diverse and representative profession.

Michael Pattinson, Interlaw Chair, said: “The launch of this apprenticeship program is a milestone not just for Trowers, but for the wider profession. Creating accessible entry points to law is essential if we are to build firms that truly reflect the societies we serve. At Interlaw, we champion initiatives like this that advance diversity and inclusion across the legal industry worldwide.
