I’ve always wanted to be a lawyer, even from a very young age. I loved the idea of using my brain to solve problems and help people and - now I’ve realized my ambition of practicing law - it’s a concept that still motivates me every day.

As a commercial litigator, it can be a stressful job. The best piece of advice I received was from my first supervisor, who always told me to keep things in perspective. There’s no better feeling than securing a win for your client - one of the best moments of my career was when a leading QC (now a High Court judge) took time out to write to my senior partner to say what a fantastic job I had done on getting a long and difficult case to a conclusion. It really gave me the self-belief to push on and develop.

That’s not to say I’ve had a career of pure success – with the great client wins comes some losses.  While these were difficult at the time, they have taught me a lot.

As my career has developed, I’ve taken on the additional responsibility of developing my team.  Of course, I’m still driven to do the best for my clients and you never stop learning - there is always something to improve on or experience.

That’s a piece of advice I would pass on to anyone considering a career in the law - it’s so important to learn from each experience, and to take the opportunities on offer, even if they push you out of your comfort zone. Believe in yourself and that will take you a long way.
