Interlaw Cares in Action:
Supporting Children and Adults Through the Power of Words
Prague, Czech Republic
In today's world, access to quality education is a fundamental human right. However, millions of children and adults still face barriers to obtaining an education that equips them for success. Here Pavel Fára, partner at DELTA Legal, Interlaw’s partner firm in the Czech Republic, looks at some of the work the firm is doing to help both children and adults reach their potential.
As part of our commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, one of the DELTA Legal’s main goals is helping children and adults’ master language and effectively understand and communicate, which is undoubtedly a crucial skill in today’s fast-paced and interconnected world.
As lawyers, we have a keen understanding of the power of words. Whether it is ensuring that our arguments are clear and compelling, drafting a precise contract, negotiating agreements, or providing sound legal counsel, we are aware that success would be impossible without the right use of language.
Unfortunately, many children struggle to articulate their thoughts and be understood. That is why we work with the Don Bosco Church Primary Speech Therapy School and Kindergarten in Prague, a specialist school for children with speech and language disorders.
The school provides personalized educational plans tailored to each child’s needs, and its programs focus on developing communication skills, social skills, and autonomy. It has a team of experienced teachers, speech therapists and psychologists working together to support children’s development and creates a supportive and inclusive environment where children can grow, learn, thrive, and develop the skills they need to reach their full potential.
Helping Children and adults find their voices
As well as fundraising support and helping with physical improvements, such as painting and maintenance activities, our focus is on creating opportunities for personal interactions with the students.
For example, together with many of our Interlaw friends and colleagues, we visited the school and talked with the children as part of the Interlaw EMEA 2024 Regional Meeting. This included presentations by Interlaw partner firms from various countries, which both supported the teaching of English and geography, and provided a unique opportunity for the children to learn about different cultures and countries firsthand.
From the positive response we received from both the children and teachers, we know that even a small gesture like this can have a profound effect.
However, it’s not just children who need support. Another organization that DELTA Legal works with is the Aphasia Club, a non-profit organization supporting people with aphasia, a disorder affecting a person’s speech and their understanding of both spoken and written language.
The Aphasia Club helps by becoming a counselling centre, and through publishing, lecturing, or speech therapy. We have supported the organization for many years, so it is fantastic to see the Aphasia Club’s long-term impact.
Helping both children and adults find their words is as one of our firm’s biggest accomplishments. As we continue to advocate for educational access and support for those facing communication challenges, we remain dedicated to empowering voices and facilitating meaningful connections, contributing to a more inclusive society.
